Plain English is clear and concise writing that allows readers to focus on what you are saying, rather than be distracted by how you are saying it. When your message could save lives and livelihoods, clear writing assumes even greater importance.
That is something that Scotland’s Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) understands well. Reporting for Business has been working with SEPA’s Flooding team to update its guidance on managing surface water flood risk. As well as carrying out technical editing and proofing, we have been improving the readability of its guidance by applying plain English principles.
Visit our plain English service page to see why we believe all businesses should use plain English, or go to the plain English campaign website to learn more. Other SEPA publications can be found in SEPA’s virtual library.
